What's Involved

Metering work we carry out as a Level 2 ASP:

• New meter installations — preparing and connecting the meter position for a new supply.
• Meter relocations — moving a meter board for a renovation, rendering, extension or to clear an old internal meter to the boundary.
• Off-peak / controlled load — wiring controlled-load circuits for hot water and similar.
• Three-phase metering — meter panel and supply work for three-phase upgrades.
• Smart-meter readiness — upgrading or relocating the meter panel and supply so your retailer’s meter provider can fit the smart meter; we coordinate the disconnection and reconnection.
• Meter board / switchboard rectification where the panel is unsafe or non-compliant.

Note: since 2017 the smart-meter device itself is provided by your retailer’s metering coordinator — but relocating and upgrading the meter board, the off-peak and supply wiring, and the network disconnection/reconnection are Level 2 work we handle.

Our Process

1. Assess the meter position. We check the existing board, the new position and whether off-peak or three-phase is needed.
2. Fixed-price quote. Clear scope including any network disconnection and coordination.
3. Disconnect where needed. As a Level 2 ASP we isolate the supply at the network.
4. Install or relocate the meter board. New panel, wiring and meter position to standard.
5. Reconnect, coordinate the meter & certify. We reconnect, liaise with the meter provider and lodge the CCEW.

Meter-board installation and relocation, controlled-load wiring and the supply-side connection are Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP) work. Sydney Electrical Service is an accredited Ausgrid Level 2 ASP (licence 236351C). Work meets AS/NZS 3000 and Ausgrid’s metering and installation rules, and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is lodged on completion.
