Alarm & CCTV Installation — Sydney Electrician

Book or quote your job

Licensed Level 2 ASP · 24/7 across Sydney

Alarm and CCTV installation in Sydney is the supply, mounting and wiring of security cameras, recorders, alarm panels, motion sensors and keypads, with the mains-powered side of the system wired by a licensed electrician to AS/NZS 3000. It covers everything from a single doorbell camera to a multi-camera NVR system or a full perimeter alarm.

At Sydney Electrical Service we handle the electrical work behind your security: dedicated power for recorders and PoE switches, neat cable runs through walls and ceilings, camera and sensor positioning, and a clean termination at the panel or recorder. The result is a system that records reliably and is wired safely, not run off an overloaded power board behind the TV.

We cover all Sydney metro suburbs plus the Central Coast, and we are available 24/7 for genuine emergencies. Book online or call 0433 462 902.

What's Involved

A typical alarm and CCTV installation starts with a walkthrough to agree camera angles, sensor coverage and where the recorder, panel and power will live. We then mount the gear, run the cabling and terminate everything cleanly, with the mains-voltage supply wired and tested to AS/NZS 3000.

  • Camera and sensor placement to cover entries, driveways, side gates and blind spots
  • Wall and ceiling cable runs concealed where practical, with tidy entry points
  • Dedicated power point or hard-wired supply for the NVR/DVR, PoE switch or alarm panel
  • Mounting and connection of recorders, alarm control panels, keypads and sirens
  • System power-up, camera focus and angle adjustment, and a live walkthrough on your phone or monitor
  • Labelling, testing and a tidy finish at the cabinet or board

Where a new circuit or board work is involved, that electrical work is certified with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW).

Reasons to Use This Service

  • You have had a break-in or attempted break-in and want cameras and an alarm fitted quickly.
  • Your cameras or NVR are running off a power board or extension lead and you want a proper dedicated supply.
  • You are moving into a Sydney home with no security and want CCTV plus an alarm from scratch.
  • An existing CCTV or alarm system has failed and you need it diagnosed, repaired or replaced.
  • You want cameras covering the driveway, side access and rear yard but do not want visible cabling everywhere.
  • A strata committee or landlord needs common-area or entry CCTV installed and certified.
  • You are adding a doorbell camera, floodlight camera or extra cameras to an existing setup.
  • You want the electrical side of a security install done by a licensed electrician, not a handyman.

Our Process

  1. Site assessment. We walk the property with you, confirm camera angles and sensor coverage, and locate where the recorder, alarm panel and power supply will sit.
  2. Written quote. You get a clear, itemised quote covering equipment, cabling, the electrical supply and any board work, with no guesswork on the day.
  3. Cabling and power. We run cameras, sensors and data cabling, then wire a dedicated power point or hard-wired supply for the NVR, PoE switch or alarm panel to AS/NZS 3000.
  4. Mounting and connection. Cameras, keypads, sirens and the recorder or control panel are mounted, terminated and connected, with cable runs concealed where practical.
  5. Commissioning and handover. We power up, focus and aim every camera, test the alarm zones, set up remote viewing on your phone, and walk you through the system.
  6. Certification and aftercare. Any mains electrical work is certified with a CCEW, and we are a phone call away if you want to add cameras or adjust the system later.

NSW Compliance

The security devices themselves run on extra-low voltage, but the supply that powers your NVR, PoE switch, alarm panel and sirens is mains-voltage electrical work and must be installed by a licensed electrician to AS/NZS 3000 (the Wiring Rules). Where we add a dedicated circuit, a new power point or carry out work at the switchboard, that work is documented with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) and the relevant circuits are tested before handover.

This is general electrical work, so it does not require Network operator (Ausgrid or Endeavour) involvement unless the job also needs a supply upgrade or metering change — work that, being Level 2 ASP network work, we are separately accredited to carry out if your security system pushes the existing supply beyond its limits.

Pricing Approach

Every alarm and CCTV job is quoted up front in writing after we have seen the site, because the real cost is driven by the number of cameras and sensors, the cable run lengths, how much of the cabling can be concealed, and whether a new circuit or switchboard work is needed for power. We do not quote security work blind over the phone.

Wherever possible we give you a fixed price for the installation so there are no surprises, and we will lay out equipment, cabling and electrical work as separate lines so you can see exactly what you are paying for and adjust the scope before we start.

Sydney-Specific Considerations

Sydney’s older inner-suburb housing — the terraces and semis around the inner west, eastern suburbs and lower north shore — often has solid brick walls, cramped roof spaces and few existing conduits, so concealing CCTV and alarm cabling neatly takes planning rather than a quick surface run; double-brick and heritage frontages in particular need care to keep camera cabling discreet and the facade untouched. We also do a lot of strata and townhouse work across the metro area, coordinating common-area cameras and entry alarms with committees and building managers, and we cover the whole Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy footprint from the eastern suburbs out to western Sydney and up to the Central Coast.

How This Service Is Delivered

  1. Plan camera and sensor coverage

Walk the property and mark camera positions for entries, driveways and blind spots, plus alarm sensor zones, and choose locations for the recorder, alarm panel and power supply.

  2. Run the cabling

Pull camera, sensor and data cabling through walls and roof space back to the recorder and panel, keeping runs concealed and tidy where the building allows.

  3. Provide the electrical supply

Install a dedicated power point or hard-wired supply for the NVR/DVR, PoE switch or alarm panel, wired and tested to AS/NZS 3000.

  4. Mount and connect the hardware

Fix cameras, keypads, sirens, the recorder and the alarm control panel in place, then terminate and connect every cable.

  5. Commission and configure

Power up the system, focus and aim each camera, program alarm zones and keypads, and set up remote viewing and notifications on your phone.

  6. Test and hand over

Verify every camera records, walk-test the alarm zones, label the cabinet, and demonstrate the full system to you.

  7. Certify the electrical work

Issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) for any mains-voltage electrical work carried out during the install.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a licensed electrician need to install my CCTV and alarm?

The cameras and sensors run on low voltage, but the power that feeds your NVR, PoE switch, alarm panel and sirens is mains electrical work that must be done by a licensed electrician to AS/NZS 3000. Using an electrician for the whole job means the power side is wired safely and certified, not run off a power board.

Can you install cameras without visible cables?

In most Sydney homes we can conceal the bulk of the cabling through wall cavities and roof space, with only tidy entry points showing. Solid double-brick and heritage walls limit how much can be hidden, so we will show you the realistic cable path during the quote.

Can you add cameras to my existing CCTV system?

Yes. We can add extra cameras, doorbell cameras or floodlight cameras to a compatible existing NVR or DVR, and run a dedicated supply if your current setup is overloaded. If the existing recorder is at capacity we will tell you before you spend money on cameras it cannot support.

Do you do CCTV and alarms for strata and apartment buildings?

Yes. We install and service common-area CCTV and entry alarms for strata and townhouse complexes across Sydney, and coordinate access and scope with your committee or building manager. Any electrical work is certified with a CCEW.

How much does alarm and CCTV installation cost in Sydney?

It depends on the number of cameras and sensors, cable run lengths, how much can be concealed, and whether a new power circuit or switchboard work is needed. We give you an itemised written quote after seeing the site, and a fixed price for the install wherever possible, so there are no surprises.

Will my security system keep recording during a blackout?

Most alarm panels have a backup battery, and we can wire your recorder and key cameras to suit a UPS if continuous recording through a power outage matters to you. Tell us during the assessment and we will design the supply around it.

Do you cover the Central Coast as well as Sydney?

Yes. We install alarms and CCTV across all Sydney metro suburbs and dispatch to the Central Coast, covering both the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas, with 24/7 availability for genuine security emergencies.

How do I book an alarm or CCTV installation?

Book online at our booking page or call 0433 462 902. We will arrange a site assessment, then send you a written quote before any work starts.
